Rules of Good Logo Design
While whether or not a logo is 'good' remains completely subjective, following these pointers will give you a logo that's both usable and practical.
1:Uniqueness
Your logo should be able to stand out as completely 'yours'. Nothing screams 'unprofessional' like a logo that's looks even remotely like someone else's.
2:Timeless
Will it look good in a years time? The latest design logo trend is so-called 2.0, a technique that can be traced back to Apple Computers. Take your logo, add a 'gel' treatment, give it glassy reflection at the bottom and you're all set. Web 2.0 is still going strong, but we'll go out on a limb and say it will be yesterday's news by years end.
3:Gimmick Free
Special FX and filters are usually applied, by inexperienced designers, to logos that are 'missing something'. Trouble is, what the logo is generally missing is any design integrity, and adding bevels, lens flares and drop shadows is the logo design version of 'putting lipstick on a pig'. While it certainly shows how cool the latest design software is, it doesn't do much for professionalism.
4:Adaptability
Over the life of your company, you'll want to plaster your logo over everything you send out. That's the point of having a logo in the first place. In order to do this, you'll need a logo that's adaptable to every occasion and while they may look 'pretty' , the design gimmicks we just talked about render your logo impractical for many of these uses.
Graphic / Logo Design

Your potential customers are visual by nature and they require more than simple text to connect them to your business. In the modern business marketplace, a distinctive logo can make all the difference. We at Green Tangerine Media have experience in designing graphics and logos that are both suitable and dynamic, ensuring that your business not only gets noticed, but stays remembered.
We've helped business owners of all types obtain a visual style that is completely their own. We pride ourselves in being flexible enough to know when being whimsical is appropriate, or when solid and clean is demanded.
Our process:
- The first step in the logo design process is a consultation stage in which we work together to come up with a logo that expresses your company's image as close as possible. This important step sets the tone for the rest of the design process. We examine your company's target audience, corporate image, competitors, ideas that you have, and any other information that will help us with designing your logo.
- Based upon the ideas and conclusions reached during consultation, a set of multiple designs are created and sent to you via e-mail as an Adobe Acrobat PDF file. Let us know what you like about these first draft designs, what you dislike, and what you would like to see in the next version and we will create logo combining for favorites elements from the first round choices.
- Most times, it only takes one or two revisions from the first design set to wind up with a single logo that you like. With each version of the logo we create and each change we make, we will attempt to work closer each time to find exactly what you are looking for . Depending on your input and clarity from the beginning, how quickly you response to our emails and how much you like our initial designs, your logo could be completed in less than a week.
"Spec Work"
Green Tangerine Media employs only professional graphic designers, our individual design portfolio's date back as far as the 1980's in some cases. As such we do not, under any circumstances, perform work on a speculation basis. All graphic and logo designs require a deposit equal to 50% of estimated cost, as determined by Green Tangerine Media. We are resolute in our opinion that spec work is not only a dishonest way to conduct business, we also believe that it drastically undermines design quality.
